Living TRAVEL - St. PETERSBURG

St. Isaacs Cathedral

Built in the early 1800's, the church is now basically a museum though still used for some services.
Whereas the building is neo-classical style, the interior is elaborate Russian Baroque.

Saint Isaac's Cathedral or Isaakievskiy Sobor is the largest Russian Orthodox cathedral (sobor) in the city. It is the largest orthodox basilica and the fourth largest cathedral in the world. It is dedicated to Saint Isaac of Dalmatia, a patron saint of Peter the Great, who had been born on the feast day of that saint. [Wikipedia]

In a rare view through the Holy Doors in the centre of the Iconostasis,
we see the back lit stained glass image of the resurrected Christ behind the altar.
